Treatment of Latent TB for Persons with HIV

Nthabiseng Modiga

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) affects about one-third of the world’s population. Approximately 10% of people with LTBI will develop active TB disease in their lifetime, with the majority developing it within the first five years after initial infection. Individuals with HIV infection are at an increased risk of developing active tuberculosis (TB). Treatment of latent TB infection (LTBI) helps to prevent progression of dormant TB bacilli to active disease.
