HIV Management Guidelines

South Africa is committed to attaining the UNAIDS 909090 targets to control the HIV epidemic through quality comprehensive health services and use of highly effective antiretroviral treatment (ART). The principal goal of ART is to attain and maintain viral suppression, which will decrease morbidity and mortality from HIV as well as improve the quality of life for clients living with HIV. The HIV clinical guidelines have been revised to give guidance on clinical management & initiation of clients on DTG-containing 1st and 2nd line ART regimens. This year’s update includes the following: 1. Regimen choice for 1st and 2nd line regimens 2. Rationale for a better 1st line ART regimen 3. Safe use of DTG in pregnancy 4. Transitioning stable patients on 1st and 2nd line to DTG 5. Use of Protease Inhibitor fixed-dose combinations 6. Pediatric dosing and use of pellets 7. TB preventative Treatment and Pregnancy 8. Updated algorithm on Fluconazole Prophylaxis Therapy 9. Use of the Urinary LAM to diagnose TB With a focus on immediate application, participants will work on a series of clinical case studies and exercises.
